CULLMAN, Ala. – Good Samaritan Health Clinic is redirecting donations of gently used durable medical equipment to Cullman First United Methodist Church’s Medical Equipment Ministry through a new partnership intended to place reusable equipment with more people across the community.
Good Samaritan will no longer accept donated durable medical equipment directly. The clinic said its patients will continue receiving the equipment they need through the church ministry and will have access to a larger selection of available items.
Under the loan program, gently used equipment is donated to the FUMC Medical Equipment Ministry and connected with community members, including Good Samaritan patients.
Recipients may use the equipment for as long as they need it before returning it to the ministry so it can be loaned to someone else.
“It’s a simple way to keep good equipment in use and help more of our neighbors maintain their independence and quality of life,” the clinic said in its announcement.
The partnership broadens access beyond Good Samaritan’s patient population while allowing the clinic to continue meeting equipment needs for those already receiving its services.
Cullman First United Methodist Church describes the equipment ministry as a community outreach program that accepts gently used medical equipment and reallocates it to people in need.
The church also welcomes volunteers interested in picking up donations from homes, receiving equipment at the church or delivering items to recipients.
The ministry is accepting gently used:
- Wheelchairs
- Walkers
- Bedside commodes
- Shower chairs
- Rollators
- Canes
- Knee scooters
The ministry is also accepting new adult briefs and diapers, including Depends products.
It cannot accept:
- Hospital beds
- Motorized wheelchairs
- Oxygen equipment
- CPAP machines
Residents should direct equipment donations to the FUMC Medical Equipment Ministry rather than taking them to Good Samaritan Health Clinic.

Good Samaritan Health Clinic provides primary care and wellness services to qualifying uninsured Cullman County residents between the ages of 19 and 65.
Applicants must meet income and residency requirements and cannot have Medicare, Medicaid, veterans benefits or private health insurance coverage.
In addition to primary medical care, the clinic provides or coordinates dental extractions, mental health counseling, hearing evaluations, select vision care, specialty referrals, social services, patient education and community health screenings.
The clinic also provides the majority of its patients medications at no additional cost.
