HOLLY POND, Ala. – The Holly Pond Council at its meeting on Monday, Aug. 3, discussed multiple park improvements and more.
Mayor Carla Hart announced that 16 new tables were ordered for the ballpark. The were slated to be delivered Aug. 4. She also said concrete pads for Governors Park tables should be poured this week, weather permitting. In addition, the new sign for Governors Park has been ordered.
Cameras previously ordered for the surrounding areas have been received by Millennium IT Solutions and will be installed within the next few weeks.
Hart also reported she obtained a quote for the repair and repaving of Turkey Hop Road West for an estimated $41,800.
“We will take funds from part of the One Cent Account and the Rebuild Alabama account,” the council wrote in its agenda.
Facia boards replaced and wrapped in metal at the concession stand building at Governors Park. Two pavilions in addition to the concession stand will be pressure washed.
“This aims to be completed this week or next,” Hart remarked.
In new business, the council unanimously adopted its annual Rebuild Alabama Report.
“It’s just a report where you tell what you’re using and what our projected projects are to use the Rebuild Alabama money,” Town Clerk Connie Moore explained.
In 2025, the town received $25,000 and the expected revenue for 2026, including road repairs and reconstruction, is $26,000.
For the last item of new business, the council approved Juneteenth as an official holiday.
When Hart prompted the council on the topic, Councilman Eli Howard stated, “If it is a state and federal holiday, it can be a Holly Pond holiday.”
Since the next council meeting would fall on Labor Day, the council voted to change the date to Sept. 14. The meeting will be held at 6 p.m. in the Guy Hunt Library conference room.
