HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville City Council at its July 23 meeting swore in new City Clerk Teja McIntyre. McIntyre replaces former clerk Tania Wilcox, who resigned earlier in the summer.
Mayor Nolan Bradford announced that he will continue negotiating with insurance brokers to obtain quotes for higher deductible limits on the city’s buildings and vehicles. The council will consider the proposals at a future meeting.
The council adopted Resolution 2026-3, establishing a one-time retirement bonus of $1 for each year of service.
Discussion regarding the extension of the city’s cell tower lease was tabled while City Attorney Dan Willingham conducts further review.
Council members approved increasing the Public Works Department’s sign budget to $1,500 and agreed to set a more realistic budget goal for the upcoming fiscal year.
The council also approved declaring old fire equipment surplus. Hanceville Fire and Rescue will oversee the sale to secure the best possible value.
An older side-by-side utility vehicle was also declared surplus and approved for sale at $3,000. Combined with other surplus equipment, the city expects to generate a total of $9,798, which will be used toward the purchase of a new side-by-side.
Additionally, the council approved $1,500 for the Public Works Department to purchase a new bush hog. The department’s existing bush hog will be declared surplus once it is no longer needed.
The city is obtaining quotes for updated and modernized equipment for the municipal swimming pool.
Before adjourning, Bradford commended the Public Works Department for its dedication and hard work while serving the community in extreme weather conditions.

The next Hanceville City Council meeting will be held on Thursday, Aug. 13, at Hanceville City Hall immediately following the work session at 6 p.m.
