COLONY, Ala. – The Colony Town Council at its June meeting voted to postpone its clean-up event that was scheduled for June 13, due to weather. Mayor Jasmine Cole said the cleanup will be rescheduled.

“We will postpone until the weather permits,” Cole advised.

The Council also had its first reading of Resolution No. 2026-2, which would allow Cole to apply for a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) for the town.

A public hearing will be held for Resolution No. 2026-2 at the Council’s next meeting on Tuesday, July 14.

Cole announced that Colony shirts will be on sale until Friday, July 10. For more information, call 256-287-1192.

In park updates, the council approved the purchase of a new rectangular sunshade for the park pavilion for $200.

During public comments individuals reported power surges during the storms that persisted over the past month. They expressed concerns about how this could affect appliances and complicate things in the future.

Cole tasked Councilwoman Mallonee Hall, of the sanitation and utilities committee, to reach out to the Cullman Electric Cooperative to check transformers throughout the town.

The Colony Town Council will meet next on Tuesday, July 14, at 6 p.m. at Colony Town Hall. The public is welcome to attend.
