Have you ever wondered what volunteer opportunities are available for you to assist the Cullman community? Doing your part has never been so easy! Here is a list of several community efforts in the area.
Donating
There are many things you can do to assist area residents, but let’s start with donations. A simple closet cleanout can benefit several households. You can donate winter or summer clothes to help families plan ahead, and so much more!
When donating clothes and other items, consider the following locations:
- Curt’s Closet, 1101 Third Ave. SE, Cullman, AL 35055
- First Source for Women, 203 Commercial St. NE, Hanceville, AL 35077
- Unsheltered International Ministry Center, 479 County Road 827, Cullman, AL 35057
There is also a need for produce and pantry items. There are several free food pantries around the Cullman area, but here are a few establishments to keep in mind:
- Cullman Caring for Kids, 402 Arnold St. NE, Ste. W1, Cullman, AL, 35055
- The Pantry at The Link, 708 Ninth St. SE, Cullman, AL, 35055
There are plenty more places that will likely need donations of all kinds in the future. The best way to keep updated is to follow their social media pages and keep up with local news!
Clean up
Remember the quote from Smokey Bear, “Only you can prevent wildfires.” It truly starts with you! Pick up after yourself, and occasionally, even though it’s not fun, help pick up after others.
It can be small, tiny efforts throughout your day that can make a huge difference. If you see a piece of trash on the ground after you get out of your car to go into the grocery store – throw it away!
- Cullman County People Against a Littered State (PALS) often seek volunteers for cleanup efforts. www.facebook.com/CullmanCountyPALS
Senior assistance
Seniors are the backbone of our community! They’ve paved the way for us and we can help them by showing our appreciation. One way to do this is by volunteering to deliver meals to the homebound. There are several senior centers in Cullman that are in need of individuals to make these deliveries.
- Cullman County Commission on Aging can be contacted at 256-734-1241 for more information on meal deliveries.
Any of these establishments are a great place to start to volunteer. Though don’t stop there. Speak to local church members, council members and more to make a difference in Cullman today.
