Wallace State Downs Northwest-Shoals 6-4 in ACCC Tournament Opener

OXFORD, Ala. — Wallace State opened play in the ACCC Baseball Championship with a 6-4 victory over Northwest-Shoals on Thursday afternoon at Choccolocco Park, advancing to the winner’s bracket semifinals.

Northwest-Shoals took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second when Parker Frost stole home, but Wallace State answered with a five-run fourth inning to seize control of the game.

The Lions collected five hits in the inning, highlighted by a three-run home run to right field by Clint Seymore that gave Wallace State a 5-1 advantage. Seymore finished 3-for-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Carson Burdette and Carter Cumming each added two hits for Wallace State, while Aiden Boileau drove in a run. Tucker Rickman and Israel Navarro also recorded RBIs in the win.

Northwest-Shoals cut into the deficit in the sixth inning when Frost connected on a two-run homer to left field, trimming the Wallace State lead to 5-3. Trent Wright later added a solo home run in the eighth inning to make it 6-4.

Sam Vincent earned the win for the Lions, allowing three runs — two earned — on seven hits over 6.2 innings. The sophomore struck out 11 and walked one. Matthew Lyons worked the final 2.1 innings to record the save, allowing one run on one hit while striking out three.

Wallace State totaled 12 hits in the game and turned one double play defensively.

Frost led Northwest-Shoals with two RBIs and went 2-for-4 at the plate. Wright also collected two hits for the Patriots.

Brady Wilson took the loss for Northwest-Shoals after allowing six runs on 10 hits over six innings.

The Lions improved to 32-24 overall and will face No. 2 seed Southern Union on Friday at 1 p.m.
