CULLMAN, Ala. – A Hayden man has been arrested following a Cullman County grand jury indictment connected to a February crash that killed a woman from Arab, according to the Cullman Police Department.
The CPD said George Ricky Sanders was arrested at about 1:40 p.m. Thursday, May 7, at the Cullman County Detention Center.
The department said Sanders was indicted on charges of homicide by vehicle, criminally negligent homicide and failure to yield-left turn.
The charges and indictment stem from a fatal crash that occurred Feb. 8, 2026, at the intersection of Alabama Highway 157 and Childhaven Road.
The crash resulted in the death of Christanna Nicole Anderson, 38.
On the day of the crash, the CPD said a semi-truck pulling a trailer was traveling southbound on Alabama Highway 157 and attempted to make a left turn onto County Road 1339, also known as Childhaven Road, when it collided with a motorcycle traveling northbound on Alabama Highway 157.
Sanders was driving the semi-truck, and Anderson was operating the motorcycle.
The CPD Traffic Homicide Unit and an Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Commercial Vehicle Enforcement trooper responded to investigate the crash at the time.
In announcing Sanders’ arrest on May 7, 2026, the CPD said the case was investigated by Traffic Homicide Investigator Hunter Potts.
“Following the investigation, the case was presented to the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office under District Attorney Champ Crocker, which led to the grand jury indictment,” said the CPD.
Cullman Police Chief Joey Duncan commended Potts, the department’s Traffic Homicide Unit and the Cullman County District Attorney’s Office for their work on the case. According to the CPD, Duncan said the thorough investigation and collaboration between agencies were instrumental in bringing the case before the grand jury.
As of Thursday evening, May 7, 2026, the indictment paperwork has not yet been added to Alacourt.
