HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Class 1A NW Regional Championship matchup featured the Addison Bulldogs and the fourth-ranked Hubbertville Lions in a rematch of last year’s Sub-Regional game. Hubbertville’s defense smothered Addison’s offense in the first half, and also hit seven threes to take a 40-18 lead at the half. It would be more of the same in the second half, as Hubbertville stretched their lead out to 30 at one point in the second half, and would go on to defeat the Bulldogs 82-54, ending Addison’s season.
Hubbertville drained a three for the first points of the game. A pair of free throws by Elijah Roberts cut it to 3-2 early in the game. The Lions, though, went on a 7-0 run to take a 10-2 lead. The Bulldogs had a hard time hitting a basket, as they didn’t hit one for a little over five minutes, before a Roberts basket in the paint cut it to 10-4. A pair of treys by the Lions stretched their lead to 16-6. Conner Lane laid it in on the other end, and Joey Wilson added a free throw to make it a 16-9 game going into the second period.
Roberts drained a pair of free throws to trim it to seven at 18-11. Behind a trio of treys and a three-point play, Hubbertville quickly widened their lead to 30-13. Lane stopped the bleeding with a short jumper, but the Lions continued to pull away in the first half, as they went on a 10-1 run to give them a 40-16 lead. Roberts put in a small floater to make it a 40-18 game at the break.
Addison continued to struggle to hit shots, while Hubbertville continued to add onto their lead in the second half. A quick 7-0 run by the Lions gave them a 47-18 lead. Scout Flynn hit a shot in the paint to start a 10-4 run by the Bulldogs. Flynn and Wilson each knocked down a pair of baskets, and Roberts added a driving layup to cut it to 51-28. Hubbertville countered with a 9-1 run to put them ahead, 60-29. Flynn drained a three before the buzzer to make it a 64-33 game going into the final period.
Threes by Flynn and Kiah Lake, and baskets by Wilson, Lane, and Roberts cut it to 67-48. Hubbertville, though, quickly put a halt to Addison’s comeback plans, as they went on a 15-6 run to end the game, and the Bulldogs’ season would end in the NW Regional Finals to the Lions, 82-54.
Roberts finished with 17 points for Addison. Flynn put in 15 points. Lane collected nine points, and Wilson ended up with eight points.
