Valentine’s Day is a day to convey love and admiration. Though at any store you are almost forced to see the stuffed animals, heart-shaped candy, flowers and more things that will end up in a landfill. If you want to make this Valentine’s Day more meaningful, let’s discuss the five love languages to consider before buying into those displays.

Gifts  If this is your partner’s love language then it’s pretty self-explanatory, but try to make this gift more personable! They might not want a premade Valentine’s Day gift from the store that hundreds of other people are going to get. If they enjoy bouquets, try an edible bouquet instead of flowers from the grocery store. If they enjoy coffee, don’t get a mug filled with lollipops and a plushie. Pick a mug out yourself and fill it with snacks you know they enjoy. Be thoughtful!   Acts of service  Act! If your special someone loves the house to be straightened up, clean! Do the dishes after dinner. Offer up the gestures and effort that make their life easier. Perhaps even make them coffee and bring them their favorite breakfast in the morning so they can take it slow.  Words of affirmation  This is the perfect opportunity for a handwritten card! Be expressive and appreciative of your loved one. Individuals who need words of affirmation enjoy subtle reassurances often. For this occasion, write a paragraph or two that are encouraging and sweet!  Quality time   In a busy world, make time! Memories are forever the most precious gift, so don’t waste any time. Clear your schedule and do something with just the two of you! Recreate your first date, watch a movie or go to your favorite restaurant. Whatever you do, just enjoy each other’s presence.   Physical touch  Physical touch is affirmation in physical form. You don’t have to overdo it to show physical affection. When you tell your partner to have a great day, grab their hand when you say it. When you hug them, use both arms instead of giving a side hug.   There are so many ways to show that you love someone, and it doesn’t have to be limited to one day.
