Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Campbell and family of Birmingham visited his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Charley Campbell, over the week end.

Mr. and Mrs. Jimmie Anderton of Arkadelphia visited Saturday with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Cone.

Mr. and Mrs. H. C. Shelton of Beech Grove visited Saturday with Mr. and Mrs. Harold Baker and Judy.

Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Sapp and family of Garden City visited recently with Mr. and Mrs. Claude Sapp and Betty.

Mr. and Mrs. Willies Knight and family visited her parents over the week end, Mr. and Mrs. Suggs of Ashland.

Mr. and Mrs. Lavon Cone of Crane Hill visited Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. V. A. Cone.

Mr. and Mrs. Bobby Blalock and family visited Sunday night with Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Blalock.

Mr. and Mrs. Oakley Shelton and family of Birmingham visited Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Talvin Shelton.

Mrs. Willodean Alcorn and children of Hanceville were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Clydie McClintock over the week end.

The Hanceville Bulldogs won the County Tournament Saturday night by beating Cold Springs at Cold Springs and it was a well played game by Cold Springs. The score was 44 to 38. The Hanceville Bulldogs won the County Trophy and also won the Ray Brown Trophy for Sportsmanship.

Billy Joe Brown from Fairview visited Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Gammon and daughters Saturday afternoon.

Mrs. Mavis Brown visited Mr. and Mrs. Joe Gammon and Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Gammon, Wednesday.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie Still spent the week end with Mrs. Tom Parker.

Mr. and Mrs. Howard Harbison and children of Gardendale spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. Albert Tucker.

Opal Couch and sister, Mrs. Alma Pirkle, of West Point spent Tuesday and Friday night with Mr. and Mrs. E. O. Ragland of Battleground.

Mr. and Mrs. Lindy McKoy visited Mr. and Mrs. Grady McKoy Thursday.

Opal Couch spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Farley, Sr.

Mr. and Mrs. Floy Parker, Mr. and Mrs. Tyler Lee and Jane visited Mrs. Jerry Lee in Cullman Hospital Sunday afternoon. Mrs. Lee is doing nicely after an operation.

Mr. and Mrs. Conrad Martin of Cullman and Mrs. Voight Heiml, Vickie, Pat and Connie, visited Mrs. J. A. Martin Thursday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Bill Otey drove to Cullman Saturday to shop.

Mr. and Mrs. Junior Gammon and Martha, and James Bagwell visited Mrs. Ada Martin Sunday afternoon.

GARDEN CITY NEWS

Joe Abercrombie of Chattanooga visited his mother, Mrs. W. D. Abercrombie, on Sunday. He also visited his mother-in-law, Mrs. James, who is ill in the Cullman Hospital.

Rev. and Mrs. L. C. Hill, Mrs. W. D. Abercrombie, Carthel Helms, H. W. Kretzschmar, A. B. Hopper, Jimmie Lou and Nita attended an ordination service Sunday at Cave Creek Baptist Church.

T/Sgt. G. B. Milam who recently returned from overseas duty and Bennie Milam of Birmingham visited their parents, Mr. and Mrs. B. N. Milam.

Mayor and Mrs. B. M. Farmer and Mrs. A. G. Latham visited “Crate” Simmons Thursday at East End Memorial Hospital in Birmingham where he remains seriously ill.

Sandra Smith and Ronnie Hudson, both students at Jacksonville State College, visited her aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Latham, Saturday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Dale of Anniston spent the week end with Paul Edwards and children and Mrs. R. T. Edwards, Sr.

Mrs. Wilson Allbritten of Arkadelphia spent Wednesday with Mrs. W. D. Abercrombie.

Mrs. Eula B. Kinser spent Thursday with Mr. and Mrs. George Green of Hanceville.

Mr. and Mrs. Leon Casey and sons of Cullman visited Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Latham on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Bowers were in Birmingham Tuesdays and Wednesday where Mrs. Bowers underwent treatment.

A. O. Hudson remains seriously ill in the Blount Memorial Hospital.

Mr. and Mrs. “Dutch” Kretzschmar of Warrior visited his mother, Mrs. Margaret Kretzschmar. They also visited Bill Shaver, Joe and Kathy, on Sunday.

Mrs. L. E. Cook is visiting her daughter and family, Rev. and Mrs. Paul Howle, in Mobile.

C. E. Brannon was honored with a surprise birthday dinner at his home on January 31.

Miss Glora Ann Woulden was honored with a bridal shower at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Oral Privett Saturday.

Charlie Wilkens is back in Jasper Hospital.

Mrs. Euchol Brannon and Mrs. Junior Brannon were in Cullman Tuesday.

R. L. Bennett bought the stock and fixtures of the C. C. Johnson Store at an auction here a few days ago. He paid $5425 after lively bidding by a large number of persons.

The St. Paul’s Lutheran Church will be dedicated on Feb. 11.

Anton Spitznagle, 80, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. George J. Brunner on Wednesday morning.

The Bradford Home Demonstration Club met at the home of Mrs. Sam Bradford when Miss Mary Sue Wiggley gave a demonstration in millinery. Offices of this club are Mrs. W. G. Howard, president; Mrs. R. G. Isbell, vice-president; Mrs. A. C. Fulmer, secretary and Mrs. Ed Phillips, clothing leader.

Miss Amy Searcy, who taught school at Hanceville last year, is now teaching at Blackrock, New Mexico, in a government Indian Reservation school.

Mr. and Mrs. Lennie Johnson announce the arrival of a daughter on Jan. 21.

Trimble defeated Cross Roads 29-18 in basketball Friday.

Dude Phillips, 73, was killed Wednesday morning when he was struck by the north bound train about 9:40 o’clock a mile and a half north of Vinemont.

Mrs. A. J. Kelhoffer entertained members of her bridge club at her home on southside Wednesday afternoon.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvin J. Wachter honored Mr. and Mrs. George Torvey at a four course dinner party on Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. W. P. Norris entertained at a Heart Dice party on Tuesday evening.

Mrs. Walter Whisenhunt, wife of Hanceville’s postmaster, underwent serious surgery in Birmingham on Jan. 27.

W. A. Reid has returned from Akron, Ohio.

Plans for the Chamber of Commerce organization have been completed and temporary officers chosen. Raymond Yost is president; Dr. G. W. Bledsoe, first vice-president; Carl Stiefelmeyer, second vice-president; and Jack Moyers, secretary – treasurer. Chosen for the board of directors are M. L. Robertson, chairman; W. T. Newton, Rene Clark, T. A. Robinson, E. E. Ponder, R. W. Sapp, K. D. Coleman, Finis St. John, J. A. Dunlap, R. A. Young, W. J. Nesmith and Wm. R. Griffin.

John W. Vest, 80, was buried at Mt. Zion on Feb. 2.

Cullman County exceeded its January War Bond quota by $16,000. Citizens bought $86,193.75 in bonds here last month.

Mrs. Charles Rainey entertained Monday evening honoring Laura Parnell who leaves Sunday for Daytona Beach, Fla., for WAAC training.

The Ben Littles have moved to Mobile.

Mrs. John King has returned from San Antonio, Teaxs where she spent several weeks with her husband, Lt. King, who now, by the way, is awaiting transfer orders.

Ralph Bland left Sunday for Miami, Fla., where he will be with the U. S. Air Corps.

Howard F. Tucker, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Tucker of Logan, is now an instructor in the airplane mechanics school at Seymore Johnson Field, N. C.

Mr. and Mrs. Finis Pruett of Grant spent the week end with Rev. and Mrs. J. R. Brown.

Frances Alvis has returned to California after a visit here.

James H. Heinl has been promoted to staff sergeant at Camp Livingston, La.

Mrs. Maggie McCoy of Miami, Fla., former Hanceville resident, is now improving after a recent illness.

Rev. Nelson Bullard, former Siluria pastor, has accepted the call to be the new pastor of the Hanceville Baptist Church. He and his family moved to the pastorium this week.

Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Caudell with Mrs. Henry Howle of Cullman spent Friday in Decatur with Mr. and Mrs. James B. Kelly.

Joe Wamp has returned to the University after spending the mid term holidays with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. E. Wamp.

The Citizenship Committee of the Hanceville High School chose the Good Citizenship boy and girl for the month. They are Helena Lankford and Jimmy Michefelder.

Mrs. Belle Marsh is ill in the South Highland Infirmary in Birmingham.

Among the other free services are the classes: Swimming, Mother-Baby Care, Home Nursing, Fitness after Forty and First Aid, either junior or advanced. The advanced course covers just about everything this side of brain surgery.

It does appear that nearly anybody can get the benefits; meanwhile it’s not a bad idea to donate that pint of blood.
