DODGE CITY, Ala. – The Dodge City Town Council approved multiple resolutions and ordinances during its regular meeting held Jan. 8.
Among the items approved was a resolution proclaiming January Human Trafficking Prevention Month. The resolution acknowledges human trafficking as a public health and safety issue and affirms the Town’s support for awareness and prevention efforts. Town officials said the proclamation is part of a broader initiative encouraged statewide to bring attention to the issue.
The council also approved an ordinance to participate in the annual Back-To-School Sales Tax Holiday. The tax holiday will run from 12:01 a.m. Friday, July 17, through midnight Sunday, July 19. In other business, council members approved updates to the Town handbook and voted to renew two certificates of deposit that had matured. One CD is held at Peoples Bank and the other at SouthPoint Bank. The council also approved a $200 per month pay increase for the town clerk.
No additional ordinances or resolutions were introduced under the “Other” portion of the agenda. Officials briefly noted that Christmas lights along Alabama Highway 69 were scheduled to be taken down, but no formal action was required.
Friendly reminder: the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce will host a meet-and-greet event – Cup O’ Community – Wednesday, Jan. 28, from 7:30-9 a.m. Residents are encouraged to come out and meet the mayor, town council members and other local residents. The event will take place at Peoples Bank (435 Alabama Highway 69) in Dodge City. The Sweet Foam Alabama coffee truck will be on-site. The first 25 cups of coffee are free. The event is sponsored by Peoples Bank.
