ADDISON, Ala.- Addison hosted the 4A Curry basketball teams for a pair of matchups and came away with another split on Monday night.  The Addison girls played hard but came out on the short end to the ladies from Curry by the score of 45-32. The Bulldog men, however, won the nightcap 74-55 over the men from Curry.
Curry 45Â –Â Addison 32Â (Varsity Girls)
The young ladies from Addison are basically learning on the job this year, due to their youth, but are improving each and every week. They hosted the Lady Jackets from Curry and the game got off to a very quick start for both teams. The Lady Bulldogs started out with a Saibre Dover putback and a Morgan Lee trey for a quick 5-0 lead. Ralee Dunagan from Curry hit a free throw but then Lee hit another bomb and Addison was up 8-1 with two minutes gone in the first period. The Lady Jackets toughened up their defense and got their offense clicking as they scored fourteen of the next eighteen points to take a 15-12 lead. Their period would end with both teams basically swapping baskets with Curry taking the period 20-14. Lee led the Lady Dawgs with eight points while Ava Bartlett had three points, four rebounds and three blocks. Dunigan dominated for the Lady Jackets as she had nine points, while Jacey Page had five.
The second period was just the opposite of the first as both teams had a hard time scoring, with each team scoring just six points each, but Curry led 26-20 at the half. Addison’s Bartlett had a monster period as she scored four points, eight boards and two more blocks. Dunigan hit another trey while Shileigh Williams hit a pair of free throws for the Lady Jackets. The Lady Bulldogs crashed the boards in the first half and won the rebounding battle 24-8 for the first half. Â
The second half started out pretty good for Addison, and they held their own for the most part, which is a marked improvement from the majority of their games this season as they usually struggle in the third. Curry won the period, but only by a mark of 12-8. Emma Cleghorn and Bartlett each chipped in three points for Addison while Bartlett had three more boards and Lee snagged two. Curry’s Kenzi Daniel did her best Caitlin Clark impression as she drained three long bombs to give her nine points in the frame. Curry went into the fourth period owning a 38-28 lead.
There would be no great comeback for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth, as even though their effort didn’t fail them, their jumpers did. Curry won the period 7-4 and the game 45-32. Lee hit another three while Hadley Welch had two steals for Addison. Curry’s seven points were distributed among four Lady Jackets. Â
The Addison ladies have shown marked improvement since the beginning of the year but they must cut down on silly turnovers and not taking advantage of their opponents mistakes. Over all their effort was commendable as was their spirit. Keep it up ladies and the wins will come. Just a side note, Ava Bartlett had as many rebounds by herself, with 17, as the entire Curry team combined for the game.

Addison 74Â – Curry 55Â (Varsity Boys)
Addison came out shooting the ball against Curry like they were playing hot potato, as they basically shot the ball as soon as they got it.  The results were a mixed bag in the first period as Addison got down 5-0 to Curry. Addison responded with a 9-0 run of their own. Elijah Roberts had two layups while Kiah Lake got a put back and Connor Lane hit a trey to give Addison the 9-5 lead. It then came down to Addison trying to slow down Curry point guard Drew Evans as he scorched the ‘Dawgs for nine points in the first period, most of them layups. Curry’s Ayden Baxter added a three. J.D. Sickles and Evans each had three boards for the Jackets. Addison’s Roberts and Major Snoddy each had five points to lead Addison. Addison’s Scout Flynn and young pup Judah Wilkins led the team with three rebounds each.
The second period had neither team being able to hit anything consistently, and a ton of fouls called. Addison won the period 9-7 to go into the half with a 26-22 lead, even though by the pace of the game you would have thought Addison was up big. Carson Dunagan led the Jackets with three points while Brayden McNeal had four rebounds to lead Curry. Flynn led Addison with four while Roberts chipped in three of his own, and Joey Wilson had four rebounds to lead the ‘Dawgs.
The third period Addison came out and basically ran the boys from Curry off the court. Addison rolled Curry 29-11 to go into the fourth period with a 55-33 lead. It was a total team effort, as Addison’s defensive pressure caused numerous turnovers and bad shots by the Jackets and Addison controlled the glass, 11-5. Roberts did basically anything he wanted in the third as he had 14 points, two steals and two assists. Joey Wilson had five points and three boards. Kiah Lake had only had two points but he came up big with four boards, two assists and one block and steal each. Curry’s Evans tried to keep pace but he managed five points, which is saying something with how the Bulldogs were playing defense in that period. Â
Most of the crowd and probably the Bulldog players thought the game was over as they led by 22 and were dominating the men from Curry, but hopefully they learned not to take their foot off the gas until the game is over, as Curry came out strong in the beginning of the final frame. Curry scored 14 of the first 16 points in the period to cut the lead down to 10 with 4:24 to go in the game. Curry was led by Evans with eight, Sickles with a putback and Dunagan with four. With the ‘Dawg lead down to 57-47, Addison restarted the engine and ran off nine straight, with Flynn having a big six points and Roberts with a trey. Addison led 66-47 and the game was basically over. Addison would take the win with the final score of 74-55.
