Only a short distance makes a lot of difference in the depth of snow. This was the finding of Prof. E. L. Patrick who visited his parents, the Frank Patricks, last week. At the Patrick farm, located a few miles north of Cullman on the Eva Road, the white winter coverage reached a depth of seven inches. This was more than twice the depth of the snow in Cullman.

Each meeting of the Post No. 4, American Legion, finds it growing into one of the largest and most important organizations in Cullman County. At the regular meeting on Sunday, December 9, the Rev. Henry Meyer, Pastor of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church was guest speaker. He chose for his subject, “Experiences With German Prisoners in the United States.”

Next Saturday night will be a night of fun for teachers. At least for the teachers who are members of Delta Kappa Gamma. That teachers’ sorority will hold its annual Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Ted Whitaker on that evening.

When a citizen does some outstanding job well, it is a source of pride to those in the county, from whence he came. The record that Mary Ruth Graham has made as Research Assistant at the University of Alabama and more recently with the State Pardon and Parole Board is one worthy of note. An article by Mary Ruth on “Education and Crime in Alabama” was featured on the editorial page of the Birmingham News last Friday.

For several days after the number for the RCA Radio, given as a prize in the Victory Bond Buying Campaign was drawn, the holder of the ticket could not be located. However, Carl Stiefelmeyer finally checked the stubs of his bond tickets and found he was the lucky winner. He was presented a certificate and as soon as the radio is available will receive it from the Home Improvement Company.

Mr. and Mrs. Alvie Harbison are the proud parents of a baby boy. They have named him Gerald Larry.

Mr. and Mrs. Loren Mauldin and girls and Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Jackson of Flat Rock were the Sunday evening guests of Mr. and Mrs. Adrian Law and family.

Marvin Williams arrived home Wednesday from Camp Chaffee, Ark., with an honorable discharge. He is the husband of Mrs. Arrie Williams and son of Mrs. Minnie Williams.

Otis Perdue of Washington, D. C., is visiting his father and other relatives here. He has an honorable discharge from the Army.

Corinne Wilson of Flat Rock spent Saturday night with Onnie Lee Eady.

J. W. Rivers is home on a 60 day furlough from Germany. He has re-enlisted for one year.

Ferman Graves has recently received his discharge from the Army.

Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Roye Garner and son spent Sunday with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Garner of Berlin.

Mary Jane Thomas is in bed with the flu.

Mr. and Mrs. Ruel C. Buckelew and children, Ralph and Archie, were the Saturday night and Sunday guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mike Buckelew.

Doris Murphree of Gadsden spent the week end with her parents here.

John and Marie Dutton of Jones Chapel were the week end guests of Dock and Norine Buckelew.

Born to Mrs. Eva Morgan on December 4th a baby boy, named Larry Wayne.

Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Whittle and children of Massey visited relatives in this community Sunday.

The W. S. C. S. met at the home of Mrs. J. R. Edmondson on Tuesday, December 11th for the Harvest Day and Christmas program.

The Hanceville P. T. A. will meet at the Hanceville Auditorium on Tuesday night, December 18th. The Glee Club will be under the direction of Miss Betty Dunn. Everyone is invited to come and get the Christmas spirit.

Mrs. Archie Kinney and Mrs. Frances Bond spent Monday in Birmingham.

Rev. Don Hill of Decatur delivered the sermon at the Baptist Church, Sunday.

Rev. and Mrs. M. M. Hargrove, Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Cagle, Mrs. Emmie Smith, Miss Dorothy Jackson and Woody Jackson attended the Training Union Service at the North Side Baptist Church in Cullman, Friday night.

Mr. and Mrs. James Linton spent Monday in Birmingham.

Mrs. C. Burkart is improving in the Jefferson Hospital.

Little Sandra Decker of Memphis, Tenn., is visiting her aunt, Miss Maymie Allred.

Mr. and Mrs. Earnest Grund visited Miss Carrie Grund who is ill at St. Vincent Hospital.

Mr. Lorenzo Interbitzen of Memphis, Tenn., was the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ashwander last week.

A. P. Blackersby of Guntersville was the Thursday night guest of Mr. and Mrs. Earl Ashwander.

Mrs. Mary Millican of Bangor is visiting her mother, Mrs. Annie Freeman, who is quite ill.

Misses Lorene and Era Ann Gray and Miss Ruthelle Ashwander spent Saturday in Birmingham.

Mr. and Mrs. M. L. Reid of Black Creek spent the week end with Mr. and Mrs. S. M. Casey.

Wally Green is quite ill with flu this week.

Pvt. Robert E. Formby, son of Mr. and Mrs. L. H. Formby is now in Nagasaki, Japan.

Pfc. Jimmie Thomas has just spent a 30 day furlough with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Thomas of Alexander City. He is to return to Columbia, S. C., for assignment for overseas duty.

After spending 45 days at home, Cpl. Cletus Daniel has returned to Fort Jackson, S. C.

After serving four years in the Army (3 years in Europe), Pfc. Don McPherson has returned with his discharge.

T/Sgt. Ova Calvert has returned to Camp Polk, La., after spending 10 days at home.

Mrs. Wayne McPherson spent last week in Birmingham with her sister.

Mr. and Mrs. Coy Blackwood have moved to Bangor.
