CULLMAN, Ala.- For teams like UAB and Auburn, it’s time to look ahead to new eras, but the season’s not over yet for a few Alabama teams. College Football Playoff Round 1 – No. 9 Alabama (10-3) @ No. 8 Oklahoma (10-2) on Friday, Dec 19, at 7 p.m. : The Tide put up a flat performance in the SEC Championship vs No. 3 Georgia, netting negative three rushing yards and scoring only seven points when the game was already out of reach. Despite that, the College Football Playoff committee opted to keep the Tide where they were while knocking teams like Notre Dame and BYU out of the bracket. They landed in an SEC rematch with No. 9 Oklahoma, who beat Alabama 23-21 in Tuscaloosa on Nov 15. Quarterback Ty Simpson and the offense will need to bounce back quickly, as they’ll face a defense ranked 9th in the country in total yards allowed. Due to the new playoff format, the game will be played on Oklahoma’s home turf at Memorial Stadium and will be broadcast nationally on ABC.

Next Tuesday, the two teams will meet in the capital city of their home state at the Cramton Bowl in Montgomery, AL. Gamecock running back Cam Cook, who leads the nation in rushing yards with 1,659, will look to take advantage of a Troy defense that allows 182.3 rush yards per game. JLab Birmingham Bowl – Georgia Southern (6-6) vs. Appalachian St. (5-7) on Monday, Dec 29, at 1 p.m. : After Georgia Southern became bowl-eligible and found out they’d play in Birmingham, it took a moment to find a partner.
