Wm. E. James was guest speaker at the American Legion banquet in Florence on Armistice Day.
T. A. Hill has the finest Irish potatoes in the county. In spite of the dry season he is making more than 200 bushels to the acre.
Rev. J. B. McWhirter will be the preacher at the union Thanksgiving service at the City Auditorium on Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m.
Carl Heinrich Boehme, born in Austria in 1851, died on Nov. 18 at his home here. He will be remembered as the artist who did the beautiful wood carving in the Pollock residence here, now owned by Judge and Mrs. Joel B. Brown.
Vernie Quattlebaum and Edgar Calvert left Monday for Akron, Ohio, to work.
Miss Margaret Deppe is in Birmingham attending prenuptial parties for Miss Kate Harris.
Mrs. Adam Dreher’s brother, Dr. H. Oberlander, died suddenly at his home in South Carolina Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Nathan Sellers (Gladys Fuller) and little son, Jack, of South Bend, Ind., are guests of relatives here.
Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Herfurth announce the birth of a little son.
Hubert Mayo, student at Howard College, was one of the two students of that institution who gave a pint of blood to save the life of one of the college faculty, Prof. Pulliam.
Mrs. W. R. Griffin and Mrs. Marion Robertson entertained at bridge Friday honoring Mrs. M. L. Robertson’s house guest, Mrs. Morrison of Springfield, Tenn., and Mrs. G. W. Bledsoe’s guest, Mrs. W. B. Mason of Corinth, Miss.
Miss Pearl Young and Herbert Mize were married on Nov. 5 with Rev. S. J. Calvert officiating at the ceremony. The wedding dinner which followed was attended by 94.

Mr. and Mrs. James Page (Esther Meyer) announce the birth of a son, in St. Louis, Mo., whom they have named Richard.
Cullman will play Rison High of Huntsville in the Thanksgiving game here on Nov. 26.
Miss Lowela Hanlin presented some of her piano pupils in a recital on Saturday morning. Playing were Carmela Bria, Bobbie Faye Morgan, Ann Leeth, Carolyn Hughes, Betty Jo Leeth, Verdie Carroll Cooper and Evelyn Cooper.
A service flag honoring “25 men in service” from that church was dedicated at St. John’s Evangelical Church on Sunday.
Peyton Splaine, in charge of soil conservation in this county, was guest speaker at the Rotary meeting Tuesday.
The Junior II Class at Good Hope will present a play “An Old Fashioned Mother,” at the school auditorium on Nov. 24. The cast includes Marjorie Kelley, Sim Calvert, Kenneth Clupp, Melva Hancock, Ozell Hinkle, Virginia Rae Cranford, Albert Briscoe, Evelyn Reid, Veneda Young, Onie Mae Mize, E. J. Cordes and Fred Quattlebaum.
Claude Wood attended an REA convention in Memphis, Tenn., this week.
In Decatur Wednesday for a district pharmaceutical meeting were Phil Hartung, Chas. Bishop, T. A. Robinson, Barney Chandler and Charlie Burkart.

Miss Hazel Karter, who has been quite ill at Cullman Hospital is improving.

Hanceville Garden Club
The Hanceville Garden Club met on Friday, November 9, with the Cullman Daffodil Club at the Holiday Inn. Mrs. Gladys Bright gave a very interesting and practical demonstration on Christmas arrangements. She demonstrated the use of clear florist spray to keep live flowers and to make permanent flowers fresh. After this program, the Hanceville Club held their business meeting. Delicious refreshments were served to Mesdames W. T. Jackson, W. W. Ballard, Clint Warren, Minnie Bonner, Homer Thigpen, Grady Wiggins, M. G. Ashwander, David B. Lamont, Harold Brigham, W. C. Quattlebaum, John Alexander, Clyde Sapp, Alfred Akins, J. N. McNutt, Pearl Eady, E. R. Taylor and ten members of the Daffodil Club.
Vicki and Anita Ashley, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Ashley of Oneonta, spent the week end with Mrs. G. H. Wiggins and Miss Dot Wiggins.
Mr. and Mrs. Harry Long visited Mr. and Mrs. Hann in Leeds, Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Johnny Benefield and Mrs. Joe W. Brown of Fulton, Miss., spent Saturday here and visited Mrs. Brown’s mother, Mrs. J. W. Davis, who is ill in the Cullman Hospital.

G. H. Wiggins spent several days last week on a fishing trip to Mobile and visited Mr. and Mrs. Grady Wiggins, Jr., and family while there.
Miss Mary Graf is still in the nursing home in Garden City.
