Funeral Service for Betty Engel Newman, age 96 of Durham, NC will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at graveside at Cullman City Cemetery with Rev. John Bussman officiating. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. – 11 a.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Newman passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at her residence. She was born November 17, 1928 to Paul Frederick and Frieda Goehler Engel.
She was preceded in death by her husband LTC Francis W. Newman, USAR Ret.; her parents; her son Paul F. Newman; her daughter-in-law Tracey Baker; her brother Alfred Engel; and her sisters Helen Engwall, Lucille Lueck, Margaret Plunkett and Edythe Nesmith.
Survivors include her sons Francis W. (Elizabeth) Newman Jr. and John A. Newman; grandchildren Kathryn Newman, Alison (Alex) Newman and William (Colleen) Newman; and great-grandchildren Felix Watkins, Forrest Newman and Connor Newman.
