Funeral services for Causey Chambles, former resident of Garden City, were held at Mt. Tabor Church, Monday, November 5th. He died in Veterans hospital in Birmingham last Friday.
Mrs. Johnny Turner and Mrs. Judy Doyle made a business trip to Cullman Monday.
Miss Glenda Hopper was Friday night guest of Miss Carolyn Wisener of Hanceville, Route 3.
Mr. and Mrs. Alice Reid of Hayden were the guests of his sister, Mrs. Vester Gamble and Mr. Gamble last Sunday.
Motoring to Boaz last Sunday afternoon for a visit with friends were Mrs. Wallace Green of Hanceville and Mrs. L. E. Price.
Among those attending the Hanceville-Huntsville foot ball game in Hanceville last Friday evening were Mr. and Mrs. Otto Chappell and children, Mary Louise and Billie, Mrs. Inez Fowler and Kathryn, Barbara Jean Gaddy, Billie, Jean, Margie and Eloise Vincent, Peggy Rucks and Peggy Seibert.
Recent guests of Mr. and Mrs. Don Quarles were Mr. and Mrs. Wiley Marsh and family of Warrior and Mrs. Jack Brown and children of Cullman.
Mrs. Marvin Williams and Mrs. Kenneth Vincent spent Saturday morning in Hanceville.
Mrs. Eldon Simpson, patient at Flint Sanatarium, spent a few days at home this week with her family.
Mrs. Maggie Clayton of Birmingham was the weekend guest of Mrs. Jim Cornelius.
Leaving for Jacksonville, Fla. Friday morning was Mrs. Alex Jackson, she will spend a few days with her daughter, Mrs. May Spivey.
Returning to Garden City Sunday afternoon, after spending the weekend in Guin with her mother, was Mrs. Roma Moseley.
Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Anderton and daughters, Linda, Nancy and Betsy of Nashville, Tenn. were guests of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Anderton.
A 1/c Alvin Edwards, Mrs. Edwards Anderton and children, Debbie and Douglas of Spring Lake, N. Y. were weekend guests of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Vincent. Mr. Edwards will be sent to Africa in the near future. Mrs. Edwards and children plan to make their home in Cullman during his absence.
Carol McAnnally, student of University of Alabama, spent the weekend at home with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leonard McAnnally.

50 YEARS AGO
Heretofore iron and steel companies have worked on Sunday the same as other days but word comes from Bessemer that one of the largest industrial plants (not as yet named) there will close work on Sundays soon.
St. John’s Church will celebrate the 25th anniversary of their church building on next Sunday. Appropriate music will be rendered at the Sunday night (service in English) by Mr. and Mrs. A. Dreher, T. Miles Miles, Estelle Kleibacker and Miss Magdalen Scheiterle.
George Parker defeated G. W. Hanlin for representative and Zeke Casey defeated C. C. Scheuing for sheriff in the Tuesday election.
Elbert Glendor, 9 year old son of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. York, died Friday after a severe illness of scarletina.
B. M. Travis came home Tuesday to vote. So did Frank Blum.
The box supper at Shady Grove Saturday night netted $26.50, a neat sum.
C. H. Seibert, teacher of the Garden City School, opened his classes on Nov. 5.
Selling on the Cullman produce market: Cotton, 8,45c to 9,25c; corn 65c per bu.; sweet potatoes 50c; eggs 22 1/2c a doz; butter, 15c per pound; wool 34c per pound and dried apples 5c per pound.
West Cullman Hose Company No. 4 has erected a bell tower 50 feet tall. It is constructed of steel and is the most up-to-date tower in the City.
Claud Martin, employee at the oil mill, got a hand badly mashed Wednesday night.
J. H. Leavod has contracted to build a fine dwelling in West Cullman for R. W. Goodson.
Grant Swan, who is a motorman for the Birmingham Railroad, Light and Power Co., visited his family at Trimble Thursday and Friday.
G. W. Blake has moved his business to West Cullman.

Franklin D. Roosevelt swept the nation in Tuesday’s election. He carried 46 states against 2 for Alfred Landon. The presidential elector vote in Cullman County was Democrat, 3,215 and Republican 1196.
The First Baptist Church celebrated homecoming and honored their pastor, the Rev. John E. Marion on his tenth anniversary of becoming pastor of this congregation.
Mr. and Mrs. Herman Peters and son, Kenneth, and Mrs. Christine Peters have returned to Eliwood, Kansas after a visit with the Adam Turners and Joseph Grobs.
Mr. and Mrs. Ed Bright and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ingle spent Sunday in Petersburg, Tenn.
Representative and Mrs. M. L. Robertson were dinner guests of Gov. and Mrs. Bibb Graves in Montgomery on Wednesday.
About 25 members of the Elks Lodge in Birmingham were here Thursday in the interest of forming an Elks organization in Cullman.
Mrs. Annie Kinney was hostess to her bridge club on Wednesday.
Dwight Fuller is building a beautiful home on his property in South Park.
Misses Thelma Rimel and Sara Wood spent Sunday in Birmingham.
In Birmingham this week for a Beauty Culturists Convention were Misses Lorene Bass and Ezma Mison.
C. A. Stiefelmeyer and Carl Stiefelmeyer left Wednesday for a trip to Texas.
Mr. and Mrs. Val Woods spent Sunday in Birmingham.
Dr. and Mrs. C. E. Herrin and Dr. and Mrs. Alvie Culpepper are leaving Sunday for Baltimore where they will attend the meeting of the Southern Medical Association.
Annual Poppy Day
Saturday will be Poppy Day in Cullman. The little flowers of remembrance will be distributed on the streets throughout the day by volunteer “flower girls”, from the American Legion Auxiliary and the Ad Astra Club.
Contributions made by those who wear memorial poppies on Poppy Day make possible the aid given to the disabled and the needy children of veterans throughout the year by the American Legion Auxiliary.
