George Thomas Hughes, age 69 of Cullman passed away on Monday, July 28, 2025 at his residence. He was born Tuesday, June 19, 1956 to Cecil and Eunice Hughes.
George Thomas Hughes, a man of generosity, kindness, wisdom and a sharp wit passed away on June 28, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of goodness and love. Tom lived with the heart of a saint—honest, humble, and always ready to help others. He spoke ill of no one, and none could speak ill of him. He went out of his way for others, always extending kindness, even when it went unreturned. His endless patience and wise words left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
He held his family close and had a special place in his heart for animals, treating them with a gentle care that showed his love for all living things.
His faith in Christ sustained him, granting him strength during a courageous battle with cancer, where he never complained or pitied himself. Instead, he cherished every moment spent with his family, especially under his daughter’s loving care.
He was preceded in death by his parents; siblings, Jesse, David, Toby, Michael and John Hughes; and Carolyn Giolito.
Survivors include his daughter, Melanie (Brad) Nipper; grandson, Derek (Katelyn) Straw; great grandchildren, Eleanor & Elizabeth Straw; siblings, Ellen Nassar, Linda Finnen, Sandra Galbreath, Deborah Tucker, and Samuel Hughes; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
