Obituary: Martha Ruth Armstrong Black

Funeral Service for Martha Ruth Armstrong Black, age 100 of Decatur, will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home with Bro. Herbert Statham, Bro. Ronald Black, and Bro. Jimmy Mosteller officiating; burial at Mt. Carmel Cemetery at Berlin. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, 2025, at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. 
 
Cullman Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. 
 
Martha Ruth Armstrong Black, born May 21, 1925, entered her heavenly home on June 18, 2025, at the age of 100. A beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Martha was a faithful member of Berlin Baptist Church for many years and was a woman of quiet faith whose life reflected the words of Proverbs 31: “Her children rise up and call her blessed.” She lived with grace, patience, and enduring love, always anchored in her devotion to her family. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reedy Elmer Armstrong and Dewey Ann Nelson Armstrong; her siblings, Nelson Armstrong, Harvey Armstrong, Sara Armstrong Moody, and Jimmy Armstrong; her husband, Ottis Samuel Black; daughter-in-law Cynthia Black; and grandchildren Julie Dianne Mosteller and Christopher Jarrod Mosteller. 
 
Martha is survived by her children: Ronald Black, Brenda Kay Black Mosteller (Jimmy), Samuel Black (Beth), and Rodger Black (Yvonne). Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Jeremy Mosteller (Amy), Jennifer Mosteller, Jonathan Mosteller (Mallory), Kyle Black, Jason Black, Cassie Black, and Sam David Black (Anna); granddaughter-in-law Whitney Mosteller; and great-grandchildren: Haley Crow, Hudson Crow, Hayden Black, Aubrey Mosteller, Nora Page Mosteller, Annabel Black, Braxton Prestwood, and Maverick Mosteller. 
 
Pallbearers: Jeremy Mosteller, Jonathan Mosteller, Kyle Black, Jason Black, Hayden Black and Sam David Black. 
 
Martha lived a life centered on her family. She found purpose and meaning in her roles as a mother and matriarch, and her presence will be missed deeply by all who knew her. As her family grieves, they take comfort in knowing she is at peace in the presence of her Savior.
