CULLMAN, Ala. – Local beginner farmers and veterans interested in exploring future financial strategies for farming are invited to attend the upcoming “Military Veteran & Beginning Farmer: Financial Planning for Farmers” workshop on Thursday, June 19, at the North Alabama Agriplex in Cullman. The free event will run from 6-8 p.m. and will include a light supper. Online registration is required.
Hosted by the Cullman County Extension and the North Alabama Agriplex, the session will feature a local financial advisor with an agricultural background, offering insights that speak directly to the unique financial challenges and opportunities farmers face.
“Financial planning is a topic often overlooked or set aside for most people and farmers are no different,” said Dr. Kira Sims, Cullman County Extension director. “We are offering this class specifically for farmers to help them understand the opportunities available for them to plan for their retirement and insurance needs.”
Additionally, the evening will feature an informal Q&A session with the speaker, providing attendees with a chance to ask questions and engage in discussion.
“Investments and financial planning can be overwhelming, and this subject can be time-consuming to learn about on your own. Hearing from this financial advisor will be a great start to the basics of financial planning, what options are out there and what questions a farmer should ask a financial advisor,” Sims added. “We want to help make the process of planning for the future a little easier and offer some guidance through expert advice.”
