A memorial service for Ottis Harold Dean Pitts, 79, of Hanceville will be 2 p.m. Tuesday June 3rd at Hopewell Cemetery.

Mr. Pitts was born January 29, 1946, in Cullman County, Alabama.  He passed away May 23, 2025, in Cullman County, Alabama.  A man of quiet strength and gentle spirit, Harold was known by all who loved him for his compassion and deep connection to the world around him—especially the animals he so tenderly raised and cared for throughout his life.

He grew up with a deep respect for nature and an innate kindness that made him a trusted friend and neighbor.  Harold’s true love was always his animals. He understood them in a way few do, treating each one of them with the dignity and attention he believed every living being deserved.

His home was a sanctuary—not just for his family and friends, but for every animal lucky enough to find its way to his care. Many people came to know Harold as “the man with the heart of a farm,” and those who did will never forget the peace and warmth of being near him.

Mr. Pitts is survived by his children, Kelli Pitts, Mike Pitts (Drenda); grandchildren, Laken Pitts, Landon Pitts; and his sister, Peggy Loudermilk (Bobby); and by countless animals whose lives he made better simply by being himself.

Mr. Pitts was preceded in death by his wife, Judith Pitts; parents, Otis Pitts & Addie Pitts; and his brother, Marlon Pitts.

He will be deeply missed but lovingly remembered by all who knew his kindness, his humility, and his extraordinary love for every animal under the sun.

Hanceville Funeral Home is honored to serve the Pitts family.
