Hanceville man arrested for child sex crimes, human trafficking in Blount County

BLOUNT COUNTY, Ala. – A Hanceville man was arrested on May 29, in Blount County, for multiple alleged sexual offenses during an operation conducted by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office.

Kody Ray Smith, 30, according to court records, is charged with first-degree human trafficking, sex offenses involving minors, electronic solicitation of a child and traveling to meet a child for an unlawful sex act.

According to court records, Smith, on May 29, solicited sexual favors from a person whom he believed to be 15 years old by agreeing to pay the sum of $100 to an adult whom he believed to be her aunt. Smith allegedly met with both parties at the residence and physically exchanged $100 with the person whom he believed to be the 15 year old’s aunt.

Court records allege Smith began chatting with an undercover deputy with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office and agreed to pay the sum of $100 to engage in a sexual act with the decoy and her 15-year-old niece. Smith allegedly went to the location and exchanged $100 with the decoy before his arrest.

Records allege Smith talked via text messages and Snapchat with an undercover deputy with the Blount County Sheriff’s Office where an agreement was made for him to pay $100 to have sex with the decoy and her 15-year-old niece. Smith allegedly went to the residence and exchanged the sum of $100 with the decoy before his arrest.

Smith allegedly agreed to come to the address of an operation being conducted by the Blount County Sheriff’s Office to have sex with what he believed to be a 15-year-old girl. Smith allegedly arrived at the location of the operation and exchanged the sum of $100 with the decoy, which was the agreed-upon fee.
