Lindsey, Taylor, Rutherford named principals at Hanceville, Fairview

CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman County Schools Superintendent Dr. Shane Barnette is recommending Michael Lindsey as the first principal of Hanceville Primary School and Troy Taylor as the new principal of Hanceville Elementary School. Barnette is also recommending Erica Rutherford as the new principal of Fairview Elementary School.

Lindsey will be responsible for grades PreK-2. He is a National Board Certified Educator with 26 years of experience and is currently the principal of West Point Elementary School. According to Cullman County Schools, he has a deep commitment to student success and a strong belief in the power of relationships.

“I’m truly excited to join the Hanceville Primary family,” said Lindsey. “My time at West Point Elementary was a gift, and I’m so thankful for the relationships and growth we experienced together. I look forward to building new connections at Hanceville, where every child is valued, loved and allowed to shine.”

Taylor is currently the assistant principal at Hanceville Elementary School and will be responsible for grades 3-5. He has 13 years of experience, with seven of those years in administration.

“I am beyond grateful for the opportunity to be the new principal of Hanceville Elementary,” said Taylor. “We look forward to continuing the traditions and culture we are working to improve at Hanceville Elementary.”

Taylor will replace current Principal Stacie Olinger, who recently announced her retirement.

Rutherford has been selected to become the next principal of Fairview Elementary School. She is a lifelong resident of Cullman County and currently serves as assistant principal at Arab Elementary School. She holds a Doctorate in Curriculum with a specialization in Literacy from the University of Alabama. She also holds a Master’s in Educational Leadership and is a National Board Certified Educator.

“I’m so excited to join the team at Fairview Elementary School,” said Rutherford. “Throughout my career, I’ve been dedicated to supporting students and helping teachers grow. I cannot wait to continue that work at Fairview. It’s already clear to me that Fairview is a special place, and I’m truly looking forward to being part of this amazing school community.”

Rutherford will replace current Principal Marty Hardman, who recently announced his retirement.

Pending board approval, Lindsey, Taylor and Rutherford will assume their new roles effective July 1, 2025.
