CULLMAN, Ala. – The North Alabama Agriplex is offering a chance to learn directly from a livestock industry expert with its upcoming workshop, “Tips and Tricks for Buying Bulk Beef and Pork.” Scheduled for Thursday, March 13, at 6 p.m., this event is part of the Living Landscapes educational series, which focuses on sustainability practices that can be applied right in your backyard.

The workshop will be led by Dylan Gilbert of Blue Ridge Cattle Co., a local farm owned and operated by veterans Dylan (U.S. Air Force) and Kali (U.S. Navy) Gilbert. After their military service, the Gilberts established their farm in Cullman, specializing in freezer beef and pork products. Dylan Gilbert, who holds a degree in Animal Science, Livestock Production and Management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, brings a wealth of experience in feedlot management and livestock production. His expertise ensures that Blue Ridge Cattle Co. delivers high-quality meat products directly to consumers.

During the workshop, he will cover essential information for purchasing meat directly from local farmers. Participants will learn about the different cuts of meat, how to determine the appropriate quantities and best practices for storing bulk beef and pork. With many cattle and pork growers across north Alabama offering options to buy meat by the side, half, or quarter, this workshop aims to simplify the process for consumers who want to make more informed purchasing decisions.

The event is open to the public with a registration fee of $15. Youth aged 12 to 15 are welcome to attend but must register and be accompanied by a paid, registered adult. Attendees will have the chance to ask questions and gain insights into ordering freezer meat directly from farmers, from ground beef to steaks, ribs and roasts.
