CULLMAN, Ala. – The Cullman City Council on Monday voted to approve a special events alcohol license for the new OmniPlex Sports and Civic Center being built on Field of Miracles Drive Southwest, near the Donald E. Green Senior Center and Cullman Wellness & Aquatic Center. While the license will expand the selection of activities and refreshments available at the location, Mayor Woody Jacobs assured the council and audience that the license will not impact youth and children’s activities.
“That does not mean that they’re going to be serving beer or wine at all the events down there,” said Jacobs. “That only means that if they have a particular event and it would be appropriate for that event – you have to get this ahead of time. So, like, at youth ball games, not going to happen.”
The council also approved requests from Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism to update the special events alcohol licenses for the Special Events District and Arts District, following advice from the state Alcoholic Beverage Control Board to edit the wording of the existing licenses from “designated cup” to “designated container” to allow for alcohol to be served in a wider variety of open containers like the glasses used at the annual Dinner on First event. Additionally, the council approved a request from Shane Quick for an on-premises alcohol license for a new restaurant located at 105 First Ave. NE, Suite B, listed as Tacomarg LLC.
The council approved a special event request from Hunter Graveman of Desperation Church for an Easter block party at 510 Fifth St. SW, on April 18, from 6-9 p.m. and April 19, from 4-7 p.m.
The council also approved a resolution to add $77,205 to its contract with Bulls Construction Group for a revised lighting plan for the Fourth Avenue Southwest and Fourth Street Southwest streetscape improvement project. According to the mayor, the additional cost remains under the originally budgeted amount for the project.
The Cullman City Council meets next on Monday, March 17, at 7 p.m. in the Cullman City Hall auditorium. The public is invited to attend.
