Janet Elrod Easterwood passed away peacefully at her home on March 4, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She left this world and walked straight into the arms of Jesus. Janet was a devoted wife, mother, Granna and friend. She was a member of Brooklyn Church and was a devout Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart. Janet worked for Cullman County Schools as the secretary of Holly Pond High School and retired in July 2021 after 35 years of service.
Just a few weeks before her death, Janet wrote, “He knows our yesterday, today and tomorrow. In Christ, nothing can separate us from God’s love, and we can run to Him no matter how bad we may be shaken from what’s going on around us. He will never leave us or forsake us!” Her family remembers that Janet’s favorite saying was ” Trusting God through it all,” which she did every day of her life. Her faith in her Savior never wavered. If you knew Janet, you were truly blessed; she never met a stranger and always greeted everyone with a smile and loving arms. She had a generous heart and prayed for many people, even in her final days. Janet always put others before herself.
Janet’s grandbabies were the joy of her life. She was always on the lookout for a fun craft or activity to do with them. Her face lit up and her voice went soft when she told a story about what one of them had done or said. She had to leave her precious little ones too soon, but her tender love will live on through them forever. Her gentle spirit has gone from this earth, but the memory of how she inspired so many people with her tremendous faith will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved her. Ja net had a way of making everyone feel cherished. She often asked how she could pray for the concerns of others, and if Janet said she would pray you could count on it. She truly loved her family and friends with her whole heart every single day until God took her home.
Janet was born on June 2, 1961, in Dade County, Florida to Hobert and Ruby Merring Elrod. She married the love of her life, Tim on August 1, 1986. She is survived by her husband, Tim Easterwood, her daughters, Hannah (Scott) Bennett, Lanna (Jared) Hogeland and Anna (Joey) Pace. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth, Avery, Stella, Lyla, Cora and Sheppard and by her mother Ruby Elrod, her in-laws, Felton and Polly Easterwood and sisters, Wanda Chambers, Paula (Shane) Edge, Bonnie (Wade) Yarbrough, as well as her honorary sister, Melissa (Don) Roberts and her brother-in-law Tom (Lynette) Easterwood along with a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Janet was predeceased by her father, Hobert Elrod, brother, Robert Elrod, brother-in-law, Tam Easterwood and brother-in-law, Charley Chambers.
Visitation will be on Thursday, March 6, 2025, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Cullman Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral service will be at Brooklyn Church on Friday, March 7, 2025 at 11 a.m., and will be officiated by Bro. Sam Gregory, with burial to follow at Brooklyn Church cemetery.
