Man wanted in Cullman County allegedly assaults Madison County deputy

MADISON COUNTY, Ala. – A man with outstanding felony warrants in Cullman County was taken into custody in Madison County on Wednesday, Jan. 29, after allegedly assaulting a Madison County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Robby Lee Fowler, 35, was stopped on a traffic violation by the MCSO Street Crimes Unit in the area of U.S. 231 South and Hobbs Island Road. During the stop, the deputy discovered Fowler’s outstanding warrants.

The MCSO said that as the deputy attempted to take Fowler into custody, he resisted and assaulted the deputy, causing injuries. Fowler allegedly fled on foot but was apprehended a short distance away from the scene. 

Following the incident, Fowler was apprehended and formally charged with second-degree assault.  

He was subsequently taken into custody and transported to the Madison County Detention Facility, where he is currently being held pending further proceedings.

The MCSO said the deputy was transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment and is expected to be fine.
