CULLMAN, Ala. — Guests at this year’s Cullman Christkindlmarkt can experience thrilling new attractions, including Alabama’s largest Ferris wheel, a massive tubing slide and an expanded ice skating rink — all designed to bring holiday cheer to visitors of all ages.
“Cullman Christkindlmarkt has grown tremendously, and we’re excited to bring even more festive fun this year!” said Nathan Anderson, executive director of Cullman Parks, Recreation & Sports Tourism (CPRST). “Guests can look forward to Alabama’s largest Ferris wheel, towering around 110 feet with a capacity of 144 people, offering a breathtaking view of the entire event.”
Alongside the Ferris wheel, Christkindlmarkt-goers can experience the Winterbahn, a thrilling 100-foot tubing slide, providing a rush of excitement for all ages.
“We’re thrilled to offer these incredible attractions, along with more surprises that will make Cullman Christkindlmarkt 2024 unforgettable,” Anderson said.
The popular ice rink is also seeing a significant upgrade.
“We heard a lot of exciting feedback about last year’s popularity and crowding at the rink, so this year, we’re thrilled to introduce an even larger ice skating space, sponsored by Traditions Bank,” Anderson shared.
Now expanded to 6,400 square feet, this is not only Alabama’s largest outdoor rink, but one of the most impressive outdoor skating destinations in the South, promising ample room for skaters to enjoy their time on the ice.
The ice skating cost ranges from $12 to $15 per session, including skate rentals, with a $4 discount available for those bringing their own skates. Sessions run for 90 minutes, with tickets sold on a first-come, first-served basis.
To accommodate visitors, a virtual queue allows skaters to explore other market attractions while they wait for their session.
“We’re also actively exploring reservation options and hope to make this available soon, offering even more flexibility for our visitors,” said Anderson.
He said Christkindlmarkt offers fun for the whole family with accessibility and affordability in mind. To assist younger or inexperienced skaters, skate trainer sleds are available for rental at $5 each, making it easy for everyone to join in the fun.
The Ferris wheel, sponsored by Coca-Cola, provides a fantastic opportunity for guests to take in the holiday lights from above for $9 per rider. Infants and toddlers can ride for free if they sit on their guardian’s lap.
In addition to these exciting new attractions, the Cullman Christkindlmarkt features traditional German treats, unique holiday shopping, daily live entertainment and the iconic giant Christmas tree that stands proudly in the heart of the market.
“We’re thrilled to invite everyone to experience the largest and most authentic Christkindlmarkt in the South, where every corner is filled with festive magic,” Anderson said. “The Cullman Christkindlmarkt promises an unforgettable holiday experience for all ages. We can’t wait to welcome you to this special celebration of the season!”
