CULLMAN, Ala. – This past weekend marked the eighth annual Bernard Blues and BBQ festival hosted by St. Bernard Abbey and Preparatory School.

Each day of the festival was marked with soulful music. Visitors set up on the lawn of the beautiful, shady campus to enjoy the rhythm and blues of Elnora Spencer early Saturday morning. Kingfish then took the stage to close out the day. Sunday featured Debbie Bond and Rick the Radiator Band in the morning, followed by Earl Williams and the Juke Band as the grand finale.

Contests galore commenced throughout the weekend. Winners took home cash prizes and a hand-crafted trophy, courtesy of Sandra Abbott. Brothers Q BBQ Supply took home the title of Grand Champion of the Kansas City BBQ Society Cookoff and first place in the Backyard Chicken division. First place was awarded to Smokey Bees BBQ for the Best Backyard Ribs.

Local artisans lined the streets with one-of-a-kind products for sale. Each booth provided crafted goods from jewelry and home decor to freshly ground grits – there was something for everyone!

The festival concluded with the highly anticipated grand prize drawing for $10,000. The lucky winner was Cynthia Hopkins of New Port Richey, Florida.
