BAILEYTON, Ala. – At its monthly meeting on Monday, June 3, the Baileyton Town Council welcomed Parkside Principal Caleb Elrod, who expressed his appreciation for the council’s role in the school being named the 2023 CLAS Banner School last month.

Council for Leaders in Alabama Schools (CLAS) named Parkside Elementary School and the Cullman Area Technology Academy (CATA) as 2023 Schools of Distinction from State School Board District 6. Then, at an awards luncheon last month, Parkside was chosen as the 2023 CLAS Banner School from the District.

Elrod noted that Parkside School was selected for the award out of 240 applicants and the program that helped seal the deal was heavily based on community involvement.

“I know that if I ever need something that you guys are just a call away and always make it happen,” he said. “While that has Parkside’s name on it, it really belongs to the town of Baileyton and the citizens and the community members.”

In other business, the council sought legal advice from Town Attorney Andy Herren regarding construction and bid laws. After being assured the Town was following the proper proceedings, the council voted unanimously to accept a bid from Steel Hawk to construct its new town building.

Furthermore, the council set dates for a number of community events coming up later this summer. Those events include:

  • Latham Horse Show – July 19-20
  • Back to School Bash – July 27
  • Day in the Park – Sept. 21

The Baileyton Town Council voted to postpone its next regularly scheduled monthly meeting in observance of Independence Day. The new meeting date will be Monday, July 8, at 7 p.m. at Baileyton Town Hall, located at 95 Fire Station Road.
