PREP SOFTBALL: Fairview collects 14-2 win over Holly Pond, Tuesday scoring recap

Fairview 14 – Holly Pond 2

Fairview didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard against Holly Pond. Kylie Kovar’s RBI triple brought home Emily Benson to give them the early lead. Later that inning, a double and a walk loaded the bases with one out. A bases-loaded walk, followed by an RBI single by Ralie Gaines, pushed their lead to 3-0. The Lady Aggies added to their lead in the bottom of the second. Kovar hit an RBI double, and Ayda Payne followed that up with a two-run home run to make it 6-0.

The Lady Broncos cut it to 6-2 in the top of the third on a two-run single by Libby Stallings, but Fairview answered right back in a big way in their half. Payne hit a two-run double, Addison Phillips added a two-run triple and later scored on a passed ball, and Josie Earl drove in a run on a ground ball to give Fairview a 12-2 lead. RBI doubles by Kovar and Payne in the fourth made it 14-2, and the Lady Aggies collected the final three outs in the fifth inning to help seal their 14-2 win over the Lady Broncos.

Payne had a big day at the plate for Fairview (13-8), finishing with three hits and five RBIs. Kovar went four-for-four with three RBIs. Phillips collected a pair of hits and two RBIs, while Gaines (one hit), Ava Pruett, and Earl each added an RBI in the win. Payne gave up just six hits and two unearned runs, walked one, and struck out five in her five innings of work. For Holly Pond (4-8), Stallings went three-for-three with a pair of RBIs, while Lauryn Hoffman, Maggie Nail and Alivia Farr each posted a hit in the loss.

Sumiton Christian 16 – Cold Springs 3

Sumiton Christian got on the scoreboard first in its opening at-bats to take an early 1-0 lead, but Cold Springs tied the game up at one in their half on a solo home run by Ciara Calvert. The Lady Eagles picked up two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead, but a two-out, two-run double by Adriana Young tied the game up at three in the Lady Eagle half of the third. It was all Sumiton Christian after that, though, as they scored the final 13 runs of the game and ended up defeating Cold Springs16-3.

Young (two RBIs) and Calvert (solo home run) each finished with a hit for Cold Springs (5-9), while Brooklyn Ingram and Kaydance Williams each collected a hit in the loss.

Brewer 6 – Cullman 4

Cullman struck first in its opening at-bats against Brewer. Abby Maples hit a leadoff single and came around to score on an RBI single by Taylor Au to give the Lady Bearcats the early lead. Brewer countered with a two-run double in their half to take a 2-1 lead. A sacrifice fly by Maples tied the game up at two in the top of the second. Cullman took a 4-2 lead in the third on a two-run home run by Brooklyn Morton, but the Patriots put up a pair of runs in their half to tie the game up at four. Brewer scored on an error in the fifth and an RBI single in the sixth to take a 6-4 lead, and the Lady Bearcats ended up falling to the Lady Patriots 6-4.

Morton finished with a two-run home run in the game for Cullman (17-12). Maples (two hits) and Au (two hits) each added an RBI in the loss.

Addison 7 – Hanceville 6

Hanceville got on the scoreboard first in their opening at-bats against Addison. A one-out RBI single by Lakin McBee brought home Kynzlee Farr to give the Lady Bulldogs the early 1-0 lead. Hanceville made it 2-0 in the top of the second on an RBI single by Piper Butts, but Addison tied the game up at two in their half. Isabella Spinks broke the tie in the top of the fifth on an RBI single, as that gave Hanceville a 3-2 lead. Addison put up four runs in their half to take a 6-3 lead and added another one in the sixth to push their lead to 7-3.

Hanceville looked to make a comeback in the top of the seventh. A single and a walk had them in business early, then an error allowed Farr to score to make it 7-4. Katelyn Twilley hit a two-run single to cut it to a one-run game, but they ended up falling just short at the end to Addison 7-6. 

Twilley finished with a hit and two RBIs for Hanceville (6-17). McBee (two hits), Spinks (two hits) and Butts (one hit) each collected an RBI in the loss.

J.B. Pennington 11 – Vinemont 6

After a scoreless first inning, Vinemont got things rolling in the top of the second. A pair of singles and a walk loaded the bases with one out. Arleigh Thomason hit a two-run double to give them a 2-0 lead, then Callie Millwood and Haley Millwood followed that up with a two-run triple and an RBI single, respectively, to push their lead to 5-0. J.B. Pennington put up two runs in their half to cut it to 5-2.

An RBI single off the bat of Thomason gave the Lady Eagles a 6-2 lead in the top of the third, but that ended up being their final run of the game. The Lady Tigers scored the final nine runs of the game and ended up knocking off Vinemont 11-6.

Thomason finished with three hits and three RBIs for Vinemont (3-11). Callie Millwood added a hit and two RBIs, while Haley Millwood collected three hits and an RBI in the loss.

Priceville 2 – West Point 0

It was a pitcher’s duel between Priceville and West Point and the Lady Bulldogs put up a run in the fourth and fifth inning for the only runs of the game. They ended up shutting out the Lady Warriors 2-0.

Brinlee Phillips and Sidney Burks collected the only hits of the game for West Point (12-13-1). The duo of Catie Lee and Kortni Baker gave up eight hits and two earned runs, walked just one and struck out two.
