CULLMAN, Ala. – The United Way of Cullman County (UWCC) supports 19 nonprofit partner agencies. It is currently seeking volunteers for its Allocation Committee.

Executive Director Stephanie Childers explained, “At United Way of Cullman County, we have a yearly allocations process where community volunteers come together to review and tour all nonprofits who have applied to be partner agencies. These volunteers will go through a training process, tour the agency sites and then choose which agencies get funding and partnership with United Way. This is a community-led process and we are currently accepting volunteers. This unique opportunity holds high importance because it is where donations to United Way are distributed and every penny stays right here in Cullman to help our community.”

Training to serve on the committee is provided by UWCC, including a two-hour training class and an eight-hour trip around the county, checking in and speaking with directors and organizations to truly get an accurate idea and inside knowledge of which needs are paramount within the organization and most needed within the community. After the visits have been made and the requested numbers have been looked over and discussed, the Allocation Committee, as a whole, has the responsibility of deciding which of these nonprofits will be UWCC partner agencies.

The next two-hour training course will be held on Wednesday, April 10, at the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce from 1-3 p.m. Individuals interested in serving on UWCC’s Allocation Committee should contact United Way of Cullman County at 256-739-2948 or email schilders@uwaycc.org.

United Way of Cullman County is located at 309 First Ave. NE. The Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce is located at 301 Second Ave. SW.
