HOLLY POND, Ala. – The libraries of the Cullman County Public Library System are a valuable and often overlooked resource. Holly Pondās Guy Hunt Library is one of those hidden gems; it offers weekly and monthly community events and programs designed to entice a healthy sense of learning and a lifelong love of literature.
āThe library provides technology and lifelong learning with our online computers and electronic learning devices for children. We also provide 24-hour access to digital libraries for books, magazines, movies, TV shows, e-books and audiobooks,ā said Librarian Shiela Wilhite. āAll is free with a Cullman County library card. One can save hundreds of dollars checking out books instead of purchasing them.ā
Childrenās programs often include a silly or sweet storytime or glittery arts and crafts to take home. Wilhite invites parents and caregivers to join in on the childrenās fun.
Wilhite explained, āWe have a robust childrenās program which introduces children to the world of adventurous reading. Programs are available, at no charge, for patrons to participate in and to partake in a healthy meaningful lifestyle.ā
The Guy Hunt Library also has a large assortment of genealogy books.
A child and adult crochet class takes place at the library every Wednesday at 1 p.m.; itās for all levels, from beginners to avid artists.
The library was erected in 2012 and named in honor of the late Guy Hunt, a Holly Pond native and Cullman County probate judge who went on to become Alabamaās first elected Republican governor since the Reconstruction Era. Hunt served as governor from 1987 to 1993 and passed away from cancer in 2009.
The Guy Hunt Library is located at 60 Lions Park Road in Holly Pond and can be reached at 256-796-5226. The library is open Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and Wednesday and Friday from 1-5 p.m.
