CULLMAN, Ala. – Cullman Fire and Rescue will host its annual Santa Ride event this Friday, Dec. 22, from 5-9 p.m. The big man himself, Santa Claus, will hop aboard a fire engine and be escorted around town, down neighborhood streets to wave at good boys and girls.
Lt. Matthew Wade said he took part in a Santa Ride when he worked in Jefferson County, and he pitched it to Cullman Fire Rescue. The local firefighters loved the idea.
“In the past, we tried to visit as many streets as possible – it ends up being a long night for Santa,” Wade said. “So we go basically go as long as we can. We have a route from Station 3 and follow the pre-planned route.”
Wade said Cullman’s Santa Ride has been happening for four or five years, and the coverage area has grown tremendously.
“We will have one firetruck, three to four firefighters and our Santa on board,” he said. “This will be strictly volunteer work from the guys at Cullman Fire Rescue.
Wade said participants will be able to track Santa with the “Glympse” app – just search for “Cullman Santa Ride” on the app.
The Santa Ride will start off in the northwest part of the city and go counterclockwise, ending in the northeast section of town. It will follow this route:
