CULLMAN, Ala. – Tucker, an approximately 5-year-old male heeler mix with a whimsically spotty coat is available for adoption at Cullman County Animal Shelter.

Tucker, despite his breed’s propensity for being feisty and hyper, is a very low-energy fellow who would much rather sit in your lap. He is quiet, calm and a fantastic listener, making him the perfect “reading dog,” per the shelter’s recommendation.

Reading dogs, a special branch of therapeutic dogs, encourage children through quietly listening while children (or adults!) read aloud to sharpen their speech, reading comprehension skills and self-esteem; reading aloud to the dogs also acts as a form of enrichment for the dogs as they crave human interaction!

Ready to read with Tucker? Head over to Cullman County Animal Shelter at 935 Convent Road NE, Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. for a meet and greet.

His adoption fee includes neuter, DHLPP vaccine, Bordetella vaccines, rabies vaccine, wormer, general exam at the vet and microchip.
