ARLEY, Ala. – Meek returned to Tiger Stadium Friday night to host this year’s homecoming game against Phillips Bear Creek and the Tigers celebrated with an explosive, 72-16 win over the Bears to improve to 3-2 on the season.

The scoring started with a 12-yard touchdown pass from Evan McCay to Hayden Smith, putting the Tigers up 6-0 early and not long after that, a 46-yard interception return for a touchdown by Hunter Wyatt made it a 14-0 game. Cameron Deaver punched one into the end zone from a yard out to stretch the lead to 22-0 later in the first and a 25-yard touchdown run by McCay gave Meek a 30-0 advantage with four minutes remaining in the opening period.

An interception by Braxton Dickerson led to another touchdown pass from McCay to Smith and the Tigers pulled ahead 36-0. Meek moved in front 44-0 on an 18-yard touchdown run by Wyatt early in the second quarter and Brady Baxter picked off a Phillips pass and took it 22 yards into the end zone for another touchdown, extending the Tiger lead to 50-0. An 8-yard touchdown run by Wyatt made it a 58-0 game with just under seven minutes to play in the first half and Jaxon Brown ran one into the end zone from 17 yards out to give Meek a 64-0 lead. The Bears were finally able to get on the board with a long scoring run, but Carson Davenport returned the ensuing kickoff 55 yards for a touchdown and gave the Tigers a commanding, 72-8 lead at the halftime break.

The coaches and officials agreed to shorten the second half and Meek cruised to a 72-16, homecoming victory over Phillips.

The Tigers will have next week off as they prepare for a big regional battle at Addison Oct. 6.
