Hele Bowls raising funds, collecting donations for Maui wildfire victims

CULLMAN, Ala. – Hele Bowls, a local island-inspired favorite for colorful and fresh poke and grain bowls, is raising funds and gathering supplies for victims of the 2023 Maui wildfire.

Hele Bowls is raffling off a collection of merchandise and gift cards for local eateries, including Hele Bowls, 412 Public House, Karmas Coffee House, Downtown Nutrition and Hanks Sports Bar, with proceeds of the raffle benefiting the Maui United Way.

Raffle tickets are $5 each, cash only. Purchases of 25 tickets or more will be counted as double entries, increasing your chances to win. Hele Bowls is also accepting donations of diapers, wipes, first-aid kits and toiletries to send to Maui; these item donations can be dropped off at Hele Bowls or Tangles Salon in South Vinemont.

Said Sarah Morrow, manager and chef at Hele Bowls, the fundraiser aligns with the restaurant’s principles of giving back, and supporting its island ohana (family) as a whole.

“The significance for this fundraiser is to help the people of Maui and the Maui United Way, after the devastation that they just endured. It connects with us at Hele Bowls because we are a Hawaiian-inspired restaurant, with myself having family on the Big Island,” Morrow explained. “Our goal has, and will always be, at Hele Bowls, to make a difference.”

Morrow added, “We want to show the people of Maui that even though we are thousands of miles apart, Southern hospitality and the will to help one another has no boundaries!”

To purchase a raffle ticket, stop by Hele Bowls Monday through Friday, from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Ticket sales end Friday, Aug. 25, and winners will be drawn Monday, Aug. 28. Hele Bowls is located at 410 Second Ave. SE in Cullman.
