Obituary: Lela Mae Whaley

A Mass for Christian burial for Lela Mae Whaley, 88, of Hanceville, will be 10 a.m. Monday, Aug. 21, 2023 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Cullman. Burial will follow the service at Fairview West Cemetery in Hanceville. Fr. Patrick Egan will be officiating.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 6 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with the Rosary immediately following at Hanceville Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 20, 2023.

Lela Mae Whaley was born on March 20, 1935, to Bird and Neanie Cone. She passed away on Aug. 17, 2023, at Cullman Regional Medical Center in Cullman.

Mrs. Whaley was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Leon Whaley; son, Barry Whaley; daughter-in-law, Dianne Whaley; granddaughter, Stacey Whaley; and grandson, Chantry Quick.

Survivors include her sons, Keith (Maryann) Whaley, Matthew Whaley, Joseph Whaley and Paul Whaley; daughters, Mickey (Randy Allison) Whaley, Remona (Doug) Quick and Reshel Whaley; grandsons, Joshua (Kim) Whaley, Chad (Amy) Whaley, Kevin (Brigitte) Whaley, Sam (Hailey) Whaley, Lance Quick, Luke (Nikki) Whaley, Seth (Tosha) Quick, Brody (Brooke) Quick, Cade (Maddie) Quick, Jesse Whaley and Tyler Whaley; granddaughters, Miranda (Jeff) Blankenship, Amanda Whaley, Chelsea Mathis, Christen (Austin) Flanagan and Melia (Tyler) Hestla; great-grandsons, Gavin Whaley, Campbell Whaley, Taz Whaley, Walker Whaley, Braxton Mathis, Tripp Whaley, Logan Moody, Vince Blankenship and Tyler Blankenship; great-granddaughters, Shelby Mattox, Caitlin Mattox, Avy Whaley, Ayla Mathis, Macy Whaley, Emma Whaley, Abby Whaley, Layla Hester and Eden Quick; daughter-in-law, Jane (Ronnie) Chamblee; brother, Don (Donna) Cone; sisters, Beatrice Phillips and Elsa Bailey; and sister-in-law, Ethelene Cone.
