CULLMAN, Ala. – With an increase in the number of car break-ins lately, the Cullman County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) would like to remind Cullman County residents to help keep their vehicles safe.

“Do your part in keeping your car and valuables safe,” said Lt. Chad Whaley. “Do not be an easy target for potential thieves.”

Whaley provided a list of actions that residents can take to keep themselves protected:

  • Always lock your doors
  • Never leave keys inside your vehicle (this includes spare keys “hidden” in the vehicle)
  • Do not leave windows down
  • Park in well-lit, well-traveled areas
  • Do not leave valuables inside your vehicle
  • Use an alarm system and tracking system if they are options
  • Most importantly, be alert and be diligent. Being vigilant with your personal safety will overlap with other areas of your life.

If you are a victim of a vehicle break-in, contact law enforcement immediately. Make a list of all items taken and include any model or serial numbers you may have.
