CULLMAN, Ala. – Sacred Heart Church and the Leaven of the Immaculate Heart of Mary (LIHM) sisters hosted “Alive in the Spirit Summer Camp” this week. The LIHM sisters are dedicated to the evangelization of youth and families.
In total there were 88 children who participated this year, along with 30 youth helpers and 20 adult volunteers from the parish.
During the camp the kids went to Mass and prayed the rosary each day. They participated in crafts and puppet shows. The Cotton Pickin’ Kids helped with music and action songs, and the choir for the Mass was the Infant King Schola.
Sister Adrienne was one of the volunteers who helped organize and direct this year’s summer camp. “The greatest success is to see the spiritual growth in our students,” she said. “They are very enthusiastic!”
When asked what her favorite part of the summer camp was, she said, “Seeing the kids’ excitement. They are very excited to go to church, and I think that’s something people don’t see nowadays.”
According to Sister Adrienne, the kids have so much fun at this summer camp, they usually return as youth helpers and volunteers in the future.
The final day of the camp was a “family fun day,” which was held on Wednesday at WildWater for all the children and volunteers.
