CULLMAN, Ala– Dozens of cancer survivors and their family and friends gathered early Wednesday morning, April 26, for the annual Relay For Life of Cullman County Survivors’ Breakfast at Cullman Church of Christ. Survivors shared treatment milestones and memories over a buffet-style breakfast, while Holly Pond Civitans, Junior Civitans and Key Club members worked faithfully in the kitchen and at the buffet line to serve them.

Civitan Walter Floyd Jr. shared how proud they were to be able to host this breakfast every year, and voiced that the endeavor is community based. “I think we started in 2012,” he said. “We have a lot of donations for the food, so we gather it all up; we cook it, too.”

Civitan Jane Black noted that the inspiration behind the survivor’s breakfast every year was showing respect for the battles and hard roads many cancer survivors have walked. “We wanted to share our respect to them. That’s what our club is known for, is our community service,” she smiled.

Floyd mentioned that Holly Pond Civitans are seeking new members; community-service minded residents are encouraged to call 256-620-3120.

Relay For Life of Cullman County’s Party in the Park will take place Saturday, April 29, from 5-10 p.m. at Depot Park. Honoring cancer survivors, the Party in the Park will also remember those who lost their battle with the disease. Relay For Life benefits the American Cancer Society’s research and services. Enjoy children’s activities, food trucks and live music.
