CULLMAN, Ala. – The Link of Cullman County’s sixth annual Links for Literacy Golf Tournament is set for Monday, April 10, at Terri Pines Golf Course. The event has been a critical fundraising opportunity for The Link’s educational programs since its inception in 2018.

“We believe that education is fundamental to growth and prosperity,” said Melissa Betts, executive director of The Link. “We host this event close to The Master’s and the break of spring because we know our golfing community is already in ‘full swing’ on the course. It is a fun day and a blessing to our program needs for the year.”

This year, The Link welcomes Title Sponsor Merchants Bank, which is also the Wise Up Sponsor for the 2022-23 school year.

The tournament features three Hole in One Sponsors this year: $25,000 cash from Farmers Insurance – Jim McDonald Agency, $10,000 cash from Mitch Smith Chevrolet and a $10,000 Sandals trip provided by Main Street & More Travel – Sandy Herren.

The Link’s educational services include:

  • Volunteers in Public Schools (mentors paired with students K-middle school)
  • After-school Tutoring and Adult Literacy Tutoring
  • English as a Second Language, 2023 grant funded by Wallace State Community College Adult Education Department
  • Summer Camps: Summer Enrichment (rising first-eighth graders) and Kindergarten Readiness (seven sites hosted around the county)
  • Wise Up Financial Literacy for ninth and 12th graders, taught in six Cullman County high schools by facilitators
