BREMEN, Ala. — This season was another successful one for Cold Springs’ cross country teams. The Lady Eagles finished second in the state, and it was a great season for freshman Paizley Whitlow. Whitlow finished first at the county meet, second at sectionals and second at the state meet.
“I feel like our team did outstanding this year even though we fell short. The weather got the best of us at the state meet, but we still pushed through and finished second in state. We will definitely be back at it next season,” Whitlow said. “I learned that putting in miles when no one is watching will help you achieve your goals and being a better communicator helps bring your team closer together.”
Paizley learned so much from Head Coach Casey Howell and this year’s upperclassmen during the season.
“He’s a great coach and he pushes us to our limits. He’s taught me to always put God first and how to be a good leader. He’s shown me that there is a difference in reaching your goal and exceeding that goal,” Whitlow said. “They’ve taught me how to be supportive and a great team leader. They have also shown me how important it is to be build good relationships with all the team members.”
Paizley will definitely be working on some things in preparation for next season and has set some goals for herself and the team in 2023. She learned some things from this year’s senior, Madison Perdue, and talked about what she will remember the most about her freshman season.
“I’m going to work on staying conditioned by running indoor and outdoor track. In the summer, I will do harder and longer speed workouts to get faster,” she said. “I would love for our team to be back at state and win it all next year. Myself, I would love to achieve a PR of 19:25.”
She added,
“Madison is always kind, positive, and supportive to all her teammates and she’s very respectful to the coaches. She was a great role model for our team. I will definitely remember the “mud run” at state. Also, I will remember our team winning county and sectionals and me hitting the 19s for the first time this season.”
