CULLMAN, Ala. – Each December, on National Wreaths Across America Day, wreath-laying ceremonies are carried out at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 3,400 additional locations in all 50 states, at sea and abroad.

The Dripping Springs chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) will support Wreaths Across America’s mission to remember fallen veterans at the Cullman City Cemetery as part of the national organization’s Group Sponsorship Program.

Alabama has 71 DAR chapters and only six or seven were involved in Wreaths Across America last year. This year the program hopes to gain several more DAR chapters.

Dripping Springs DAR is proud to support efforts that help unify the community and celebrate freedom by thanking the more than 300 veterans laid to rest at Cullman City Cemetery with the placement of live, balsam veteran’s wreaths this December.

Local Boy Scout troops will be laying the wreaths on Saturday, Dec. 17. Any member of the public is welcome to join at 9 a.m. to participate or watch the ceremony.

Athelia Gibbs of Dripping Springs DAR said, “One of our main objectives is patriotism, and it’s also historic preservation and education. Those are the three main objectives. So, we feel like this project fulfills all three of those. We’re remembering those veterans that served our country.”

Dripping Springs DAR will also be set up in a booth at the Cullman County Veterans Day Celebration at Cullman Regional Airport Saturday, Nov. 5, to sell wreaths for $15.

Those interested in volunteering for Wreaths Across America or sponsoring a wreath to support Dripping Springs DAR are invited to contact Athelia Gibbs at 256-502-2040 or awgibbs@centurytel.net,  or visit www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/AL0134 to learn more.
