GOOD HOPE, Ala. – After capturing the Cullman County Championship a week ago, the Good Hope Lady Raiders were back on their home floor Thursday night hosting this year’s Class 4A, Area 12 Tournament. Oneonta defeated Hanceville to advance to the finals and the Lady Raiders swept Oneonta 3-0 to claim the 4A, Area 12 title. With the win, Good Hope has punched its ticket back to the North Regional Tournament in Huntsville.

Good Hope 25 – Oneonta 20 (First Set)

The opening set between Good Hope and Oneonta was about as close as it gets. Neither team led by more than throughout most of the set until the Lady Raiders began to create some separation late. After falling behind the Lady Redskins 20-19 late in the first set, Good Hope answered with a 6-0 scoring run to pull away and take the set 25-20.

Good Hope 25 – Oneonta 14 (Second Set)

The second set was a little easier for the Lady Raiders. Oneonta scored the first point, but Good Hope scored five of the next six to take an early, 5-2 lead. That lead stretched to 10-4 as the set went on but Oneonta managed to trim the deficit to 14-10 at one point. The Lady Redskins wouldn’t come any closer than that. Good Hope pulled ahead 21-12 to put things out of reach and cruised to a 25-14 win in set number two.

Good Hope 25 – Oneonta 17 (Third Set)

With one more win between them an area title, the Lady Raiders were locked in for the third set. Oneonta led the way 4-3 early but Good Hope answered quickly to move in front 6-5. The Lady Raiders extended their lead to 10-5 as the set went on and maintained a 15-8 advantage later in the frame. Oneonta cut the lead to 16-11 at one point but couldn’t get any closer than that and Good Hope pulled away to take third set 25-17 and capture this year’s 4A, Area 12 Championship.

Bailey Keef, Maddie McKenney, Ivey Maddox and Emma Bailey earned All-Area Tournament honors and Bailey was named Tournament MVP. The Lady Raiders will play the runner up of the Area 9 Tournament at the Von Braun Center in Huntsville Wednesday, Oct. 19 at 10:15 a.m.
