CULLMAN, Ala. – After collecting a massive region win over Athens on the road last week, the Cullman Bearcats returned home to Mark Britton Field at Oliver Woodard Stadium Friday night for another regional matchup. This time the opponent was Columbia and the ‘Cats mauled the Eagles at home 35-6 to collect another region win and improve to 6-2 on the season.

Cullman got its first points on the board after a big run by Preston Gray set up a 21-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Ryan Skinner to L.J. Turner. Garrett Mobley’s extra point made it a 7-0 game with just two minutes gone in the opening quarter. The Bearcats added to their lead on their next possession, capping off another scoring drive with a 5-yard touchdown run by Skinner to make it 14-0.

The ‘Cats blocked the next Columbia punt and regained possession with a short field. Just a few plays later, Reagan Ogstad dove into the end zone from 2 yards out to stretch the lead to 21-0 early in the second quarter. Cullman scored one more time in the first half when Skinner connected with Gray on a short pass, and he took it into the end zone for a 4-yard touchdown. Mobley’s extra point put the Bearcats in front 28-0 going into the locker room at the break.

Cullman got some younger players into the game in the second half, and they kept the momentum going on offense. Tucker Perry finished the next scoring drive for the Bearcats with an 11-yard touchdown run and after the extra point, the ‘Cats led Columbia 35-0 early in the third. The Eagles were able to get some points on the board in the final frame, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early Cullman lead and the Bearcats went on to win it over Columbia 35-6.

The ’Cats improve to 6-2 with the win and they’ll be back on the road next week for a big game against Muscle Shoals.
