ADDISON, Ala. — Addison hosted the 3A Lauderdale County Lady Tigers at Allen Stephenson Gym in an end of the week matchup. Addison came away with a tough 25-19, 25-20, 25-20 three set victory.

Addison’s Lady Bulldogs had already beaten the Lady Tigers at the Danville Tournament and the Lady Tigers were looking for revenge. The first set was a back-and-forth affair with neither team able to pull away. Addison jumped out to a 3-2 lead and the Lady Tigers stormed back taking a 7-5 lead.  The Lady Tigers back line played incredible defense. It was a taste of things to come as they would do this all day. Addison would score three in a row and then Lauderdale County would score the next three points. Gracie “Bug” Manley was a consistent force for the Dawgs as she passed out assists like they were candy. The score stood at Addison 19 Lauderdale County 18 when the Lady Dawgs went on the all-important run to take the game. They were led by “Dynamite” Dacey Baker who led the Dawgs in kills and Bailee Ory who dug every ball they came across the net. Addison took 6 of the next 7 points to come away with the first set 25-20 victory.

The second set proved to be no easier for the top-ranked Lady Dawgs. The Lady Dawgs jumped out to a quick 7-3 lead. Abby Waldrep had several kills and Manley continued with her assists. The Dawgs stretched their lead to 13-7 and appeared to be in cruise control mode when the Lady Tigers got back into the game. The Lady Tigers rode their stingy defense to cut the lead to 18-16. Addison extended their lead to 22-16 on the serve of Ory. The Lady Tigers stormed back cutting the lead to 22-20. Addison fought for every point and took the final three in some very long volleys between the ladies to give the Lady Dawgs the second set win, 25-20.

The final set was just as good as the previous two. This time Lauderdale County jumped out to a 9-4 lead and it looked like the Lady Tigers were not ready to make that long trip back home just yet. The young ladies from Addison woke up and decided that they needed to end it here. “Magic” Molly Gilbreath and Lydia “Barbie” Ergle led the Dawgs in digs as they saved numerous points. Manley continued dishing out the assists and Waldrep blocked several shots that just crushed the spirit of the Lady Tiger defenders. Addison took the 15-13 lead. The Lady Tigers answered the Lady Dawg run scoring 5 of the next 7 points to take a 18-17 lead. Addison closed out the game on an 8-2 run to get the victory and the sweep 25-20.

Addison Head Coach Kaydi Woodard was pleased with the victory.

“I think we played well. We worked out a few kinks and the offense played clean. Molly (Gilbreath) played really well on defense today and Abby (Waldrep) was unreal on the net today. Nice to get the win and we play (Decatur) Heritage next week which is a region game for us.”
