ASHVILLE, Ala. – Hanceville made the trip over to Ashville Thursday night for a regional battle between Bulldogs and it was the hometown Bulldogs of Hanceville that were able to return with a 22-13 win.

Hanceville’s offense was in rhythm early, driving down the field and taking a 7-0 lead on a 5-yard touchdown run by Brosnan Ward. Ashville responded with a score of its own to tie things up at 7 early in the second quarter but Zach Campbell answered with a 43-yard touchdown run to put the Bulldogs back in front 13-7 with just over seven minutes remaining in the first half. Neither team was able to get on the board again in the opening half and the Bulldogs went into the locker room leading Ashville 13-7 at the break.

Hanceville got off to a fast start in the second half as well, extending its lead to 15-7 when Marquise Leith blocked an Ashville punt to force a safety. The Bulldogs held onto a 15-7 advantage going into the fourth quarter and they added to their lead midway through the final frame when Campbell punched a touchdown into the end zone from a yard out. Maclome Delgado’s extra point put Hanceville in front 22-7 with just over five minutes to play.

Ashville scored a little over a minute later and trimmed the Bulldogs lead down to 22-13. Ashville successfully recovered the ensuing onside kick, but Hanceville got the last stop it needed on fourth down a few plays later to secure a 22-13 road win.

Hanceville improves to 2-2 with the win and will be back home at Ray Talley Stadium next week to face off against Cherokee County in another region matchup.
