HANCEVILLE, Ala. – The Hanceville Bulldogs earned their first win of the season over West Point 27-13 last week and they returned to Ray Talley Stadium for a critical region battle with Oneonta Friday night. The Bulldogs were able to get some points on the board in the second half but couldn’t overcome the early deficit and dropped their region opener to the Redskins 41-18.

After a scoreless first quarter, the Redskins began to create some separation in the second. Oneonta scored on the first play of the quarter to take a 7-0 lead and found the end zone again with around eight minutes to play in the half to make it 14-0. The Redskins punched another one in with just over four minutes on the clock in the second and went into the locker room leading the Bulldogs 21-0 at halftime.

Hanceville’s offense struck back early in the second half when Noah Jones hit JT Davis for a 43-yard touchdown and trimmed the Oneonta lead to 21-6. The Redskins responded with a score of their own to make it a 28-6 game, but Brosnan Ward punched one into the end zone from a yard out late in the third to cut the lead to 28-12. Oneonta was able to pull ahead 41-12 with just under six minutes remaining in the game but a 50-yard touchdown by Marquise Leith cut the lead to 41-18 in the final minute of the fourth. Unfortunately, that was all the offense Hanceville could muster in the second half and Oneonta was able to hold on and win it 41-18.

The Bulldogs drop to 1-2 with the loss and they’ll be back on the road next week for another region matchup against Ashville.
