FAIRVIEW, Ala. – The Fairview Lions Club is hosting its annual Labor Day celebration Monday, Sept. 5, at Randall Shedd Community Park. Festivities will kick off at 8 a.m. and run through 3 p.m. with the parade beginning at 11. Lineup will be at 10 at Clinton Barbee Field.

The parade, which has been held for more than 25 years, will be accompanied by the annual Car, Truck and Motorcycle Show, which began about six years ago when current Lions Club President William Criscoe came on board.

Lions Club member Kita Chambers said, “He (Criscoe) was involved in car shows and we got him to help us get started. Our car show seems like it grows from year to year, so he’s been a very good influence for us.”

Registration for the car show starts at 8. The fee is $15, and awards will be given out at 1.

Other activities will include ring toss, bouncy houses, dunking booth and train rides for kids. Vendors are welcome to preregister but are also encouraged to simply show up to the event. The vendor booth fee is $10.

Said Chambers, “It’s a first come, first served set up. Somebody will be there early in the morning that can tell them where to set up.”

The Lions Club asks for no “ready-to-eat” food vendors as most of its proceeds come from concession sales. The funds raised at the event will go toward the Fairview Lions Club project fund.

Vendors can preregister by calling Criscoe at 256-385-5596 or Felicia Bailey at 256-735-8722.

The Cullman Police Department will bring its helicopter for kids to explore, and LifeSouth Blood Mobile will be on-site for any who wish to donate.

Chambers said the event is one of three planned by the Lions Club throughout the year that draw the biggest crowds.

“We have one at Labor Day and then we have one the first Saturday in April that we call Spring Fling and then we have Turkey Shoot in November on Thanksgiving Day,” she said. “That’s our three biggest events we have.”

The parade lineup, in order, will be fire trucks, Grand Marshal Jim Boyd, Miss Fairala, the Fairview Aggie Band, Fairview Aggie majorettes, Fairview Youth Football and Cheerleaders, churches, miscellaneous floats or vehicles and horses.
